Earlier this year I told you that 2012 would be the Year of the Dragon, and that the next few betas would help us nail down our actual launch date. Well, after the results of our latest stress test, I’m happy to announce that we’re ready to nail down that date.

To begin this blog post, let me pose a question: How do you measure the success of an MMO?
Historically, it’s been easy to point to success with traditional MMOs: subscription numbers were the ultimate means a company used to measure how well a game was doing, and customers typically looked at those same numbers as well to gauge the success of the game. The number of concurrent users—how many players are online at a given time—was also important, but that number was usually hidden from users, since it typically painted a less rosy picture of a game’s health when compared to the number of active subscriptions.
Marketing Coordinator, David Campbell, is joined by Guild Wars 2 Lead Producer, Chris Whiteside to give a preview of the next Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Event.

Why do we actually play certain professions over others? It’s a question I’ve thought about a great deal recently after struggling to decide on which profession to play.
I’ve always been drawn to rugged, quick classes that have an air of adventurer about them. This may sound contradictory, but I’ve never found stealth based professions of any interest (though they fit the mould I enjoy) and certainly not those that fall into the traditional backstab archetype. I often find such a play style a little too predictable and limited.

Heroes of Tyria!
My name is Chris Whiteside, and I’m the lead producer of Guild Wars 2. Normally, I’m head-down in the trenches, making sure we’re producing the best MMO possible, but I wanted to come up for air and share some exciting news with you:
Beta Weekend Event 2 will begin on Friday, June 8th, at noon PDT (GMT-7) and will run until Sunday, June 10th, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (GMT-7).

Obtaining piles of shiny loot can be awesome, but figuring out what to do with the spoils of war after the fact can be a total drag. In fact, the most common MMOG inventory management systems could easily go by the alias D.R.A.G. – Doesn’t Respect the Average Gamer.
While there are still some aspects of inventory management in Guild Wars 2 that could be improved upon, overall ArenaNet has done a great job of giving players plenty of tools to work with. To that end, we’ve put together a collection of tips to help keep the inventory management mini-game from critting you for too much damage, and keep you out enjoying the rest of the game instead.

Ever since we announced the Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchase program and Headstart Access, we’ve had a lot of questions about how name reservation will work for existing Guild Wars players. Here’s how it will work:

Unlike other MMOG achievement systems, in Guild Wars 2 players will have a combination of achievements based on long-term, monthly, and daily goals. This guide will walk you through the latter achievement type, providing tips and useful information to help you quickly and easily complete them on each of your characters.
Why should you be interested in completing the daily achievements in GW2? The most obvious and direct benefit for doing so is that for completion of each tier, you will earn a flat Exp reward. Read on to learn more about each of the four currently available Daily achievement tracks!
With the first public beta weekend for Guild Wars 2 set to kick off this Friday, this will be the first time many fans will have an opportunity to play the game. To help get you up to speed on some of the things that sets GW2 apart from traditional MMOs, we've put together a list of useful tips for first time players. While some of the info contained will be familiar to those of you who have been following the game closely for the past couple of years, you'll still want to keep these things in mind when you dive into the game this weekend.
Community Team Lead, Martin Kerstein, is joined by Game Designer Mike Zadorojny to give a short preview (with new screen shot images) of what players can expect to experience in the first Beta Weekend Event.
Enjoy !
Things have been quiet for a while in SW:TOR for PK, but when patch 2.0 came out, activity has gone up again far enough to start up operations again.
After a few runs on nightmare modes of classic operations (getting a few people the infernal and unyielding titles), we set our sights on Terror from Beyond this week. During our first run, we managed to clear all bosses up to the Terror from Beyond, but weren't able to get him down.

Being a large multi-gaming community it's not often people get to mingle with others from different games, so it was decided we would all get together in a mutual free to play game which the only requirement was for you to pick it up and play. Although not completely free we decided that along with the steam sale of Left 4 Dead 2 that we would utilise our L4D2 server and host the community night on there.
