2009 in Review and upcoming FPS releases

Well Folks
2009 was quite a lean year for FPS games with only The Left 4 Dead Series making it a worthwhile year. We saw the release of L4D2 which was a godsend for FPS gamers and my honest opinion was easily a fantastic follow up to an already great game, adding new characters, new specials, new weapons and extending the storyline even further.

Then we had Modern Warfare 2, the much expected release and the ensuing debacle regarding Modern Warfare 2 left many PC Gamers extremely disappointed with the lack of support and consideration from Activision. Activisions direct console port to PC for MW2 was in many eyes a betrayal off the very community that made the Call of Duty franchise such an enduring success, then in their PR spin, added insult to injury by trying to pass off this excuse of an FPS game as a definitive experience in PC gaming while removing dedicated servers, console controls and all the other goodies PC gamers have had for many years. In return we were given mouse and keyboard controls and IWnet, an untested and totally unacceptable matchmaking system from Activision.

But this we already know and have lamented over so we look to 2010 for some solace in the release of not one but two long running franchises, Battlefield 3, in the form of Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor in the form a revamped MOH, updated and set in Afghanistan. Both these releases coming from what was once seen as the Satan of FPS games to what is now regarded as their saviour, Electronic Arts (EA).

Both games slated for release in and around March 2010 with the multiplayer aspects of both games being created by DICE.  These releases will fill the FPS vacuum created by Activision.

The PK FPS community has had resurgence with old or former PK members returning to the fold and we aim to build on this with a COD 4 server with mod maps now joining our server list along with the L4D coop, L4D2 coop and L4D2 versus servers and we will be supporting both the EA releases.

In all things look good for next year so a Happy New Year to all PK.
