Blizzard Answers Questions For Ask The Devs #4

Written by Curse Gaming

You had questions, and now Blizzard has your answers. Round four of the Ask the Devs series covered Armor and Weapons, and it was a fairly good Q&A with quite a few interesting responses from Blizzard.

Q: Is there any chance we could have caster weapons involved in casting animations? It would look cool to be holding a staff and casting a spell through it, at least as a customization option. - Dromanthis (NA/ANZ)

This is something we would dearly love to do. We agree that melee specs get to see their weapons a lot more often in combat while it's easy for casters to forget about them. It's definitely on the list, but understand that we have so many races now (and two sexes for all existing races) that the animations get expensive to produce.

Q: Would it be possible for city quartermasters to sell the same equipment that guards wear? Stats wouldn't matter. - Pokemonmasta (EU|English), Tajit (NA/ANZ)

A:  Cool idea. We'll talk about it.

image If you've been following MMO-Champion's coverage of patch 4.1, then you've probably seen that the Dungeon Finder is receiving some updates in the patch. Most notably, it's going to be far more forgiving on earning Valor points from the system.

There have been doubts about this, even with Boubouille's screenshots. However, today Lylirra posted and confirmed the changes that were previously considered 'datamined'.

4.0.6 Hotfixes For March 2 Through March 16

Written by Curse Gaming

image

Curious what Blizzard has been up to this month, aside from patch 4.1 and its PTR testing phase? Last night they updated the 4.0.6 hotfix notes post to include hotfixes that have been applied between March 2nd and March 16th. Check the updates out below.

March 2 - March 16

  • General
    • Using macros no longer halts or delays transports.
  • Classes
    • Priests
Casting Holy Word: Chastise against bosses will cause damage, but no longer disorient them when they are immune to such effects. Dungeons & Raids

Patch 4.1's PTR phase is coming soon. Very soon, actually. Blizzard revealed that not long ago, along with the current patch notes for the first major content patch of Cataclysm.

The surprising thing, for pretty much everyone discovering the news, is that Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman are "coming back" in the patch. They're being converted into level 85 5-player dungeons, with heroic modes to boot. Oh, and they're going to drop epics of ilevel 353 in quality.

World Of Warcraft PTR Patch 4.0.6 Notes

Written by Curse Gaming

Patch 4.0.6 is now live on the PTR, and Blizzard has published the patch notes to go along with it.  As Nethaera points out, the patch includes many tooltip updates to reflect the hotfixes that have taken place since Cataclysm came out.

Overall it looks like the initial implementation for the balancing patch that Ghostcrawler talked about

The 4.0.6 PTR patch notes have been updated by Blizzard once again. It's unclear if these notes reflect changes in the most recent build, or a build coming up. That said, there are some big improvements to Justice points in the notes now, including level 85 normal dungeon bosses awarding 30 when killed. You also no longer have to discover the Cataclysm dungeons prior to queueing for them. That didn't last very long.

The other most notable change is a fairly hefty nerf to Paladin healing by way of increasing the mana costs of a majority of their heals, by around 10% each. Smaller changes include Moonkin Form now granting the ability to break out of roots when shape shifting into and out of it, and Single-Minded Fury now increasing damage by 20%, up from 15%.

The 4.0.6 patch notes have been updated once again today.  Interestingly, it includes a host of dungeon changes on the same day Ghostcrawler said heroics and raids are meant to be hard.  I guess he wrote that with these changes in mind, or something.

Blizzard today revealed details on a new free update to the World of Warcraft Mobile Armory.  It brings the mobile app up to speed by adding Cataclysm content, like new items, the goblin and worgen races, and new race/class combinations.

It's also been reskinned to look similar to the new World of Warcraft community site, which went live last month.  The goal here, of course, is to keep a consistent feel throughout all WoW properties so that your browsing experience doesn't differ dramatically from one app or website to another.
